CCBers Support Nonprofit Efforts in May

Check out your associates’ VTO experiences in these photo highlights.

Thank you to our CCB volunteers who participated in these opportunities to serve our community!

Circle of Lights

Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care held its annual Circle of Lights memorial event on Tuesday, May 23, at the fountain in Mill Creek Park on the Plaza. This beautiful ceremony of remembrance is for loved ones who have passed away.

Participants lined the sidewalks and fountain with luminaries dedicated to loved ones, followed by a formal program led by Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care’s Grief Services team and other volunteers, including painters and musicians, dances, a bagpiper, and stories of hope and remembrance.

CCB volunteers set up folding chairs, filled 800 luminary bags with candles and sand, and helped out wherever needed.

Hillcrest Transitional Housing

CCB volunteers spent several hours on Wednesday, May 17, serving Hillcrest Transitional Housing by cleaning and painting apartments for new tenants.

The organization offers homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve. Hillcrest provides:

  • A transitional housing program that focuses on moving clients to self-sufficiency within a 90-day time frame.

  • A 24-month youth housing program for homeless teens and young adults, ages 18 to 24, who have an educational goal.

  • A rapid re-housing program for those in need of immediate housing.
