What’s Happenin’ Around Town - November 2021

November in Kansas City has just about everything ... Fall festivals, holiday lightings, whiskey and wine, and college basketball! Take a look below and fill your calendars with some of our cooler weather favorites:


Business Council Corporate Family Day, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. CCB associates and up to three guests are invited to visit the museum and enjoy FREE admission to three vibrant new exhibitions open now: Castles, Cottages and Crime; Origins: Collecting to Create the Nelson-Atkins; and Weaving Splendor: Treasures of Asian Textiles. Music & Lights: A Twilight Drive-In Experience, Saturday, November 6, 8 pm to 8:30 pm, Town Center Plaza, 5000 W. 119th Street, north parking lot. This is a free, live drive-in concert with music by Billboard chart climber Ashley Barron plus vocals from Casi Joy, Drew Six, Rusty Laffoon, Nick Nave and Nicole Springer with a special LED light show performance by nationally acclaimed performing arts group Quixotic.

 

Wicked Wine Walk at Power & Light, Saturday, November 6, 3 pm to 6 pm. Sip and savor your way through the Kansas City Power & Light District with wine tastings at more than half a dozen neighborhood venues, plus live music and small plates at each location. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation.

 

Annual Kansas City Whiskey Expo 2021, Saturday, November 6, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Harrah's Casino & Hotel. Meet master distillers, master blenders, brand managers and man other industry professionals who share their knowledge as you taste whiskeys throughout the evening. Discover what local distilleries have to offer as well as share drams from all over the world with other enthusiasts.

 

Festival of Lights, November 11-December 30, 4 pm to 10 pm, Wednesday-Sunday, Powell Gardens. Illuminated by Evergy, this family-favorite festival features immersive, botanically-inspired installations that celebrate the natural joy of the season. More than 20 miles of lights highlight the natural forms of Powell Gardens’ tree collection and show off the architecture and landscape elements in the Gardens.

 

Fall Family Festival at Weston Red Barn Farm, 16300 Wilkerson Road, Weston, MO, November 13, 10 am to 5 pm. Activities include hay rides, grain train, corn maze, bon fire, sack races, bouncy houses, cornhole, raffles, food, music, games and more! Adults $10; children $5.

 

Holiday Boutique 2021, November 18-21, Overland Park Convention Center. Discover new holiday decor, apparel, toys, treats and more. Parking and shuttles available.

 

KC Rep's "A Christmas Carol," November 19-December 26, Spencer Theatre, 4049 Cherry, Kansas City, MO. Join Ebenezer Scrooge on his redemptive journey with Christmas Past, Present, and Future, and rediscover the true meaning of the holidays.

 

Hall of Fame Classic, November 22-23, T-Mobile Center. Hosted by The College Basketball Hall of Fame, this tournament kicks off a new season of collegiate basketball competition. On the same weekend, six to eight basketball players and coaches from around the country are inducted in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame each year.

 

Christmas in the Sky, Wednesday, November 24, 5:30 pm to 8 pm, The Point on Longview Lake Beach. This free holiday stage show features 100 singers and dancers from Monica's School of Dance, Santa arriving by sleigh and fireworks choreographed to holiday music and simulcast on 99.7 The Point.

 

Christmas in the Park, November 24-December 31, Longview Lake, features more than half million lights and 175 animated displays. Admission is free, but voluntary donations support more than 35 local charities.


 

Plaza Lighting Ceremony, November 25, 5 pm to 8 pm, Country Club Plaza. Don't miss this KC holiday tradition after you've enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner!

 

Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, November 26, 5:30 pm, Crown Center Square. The 100-foot-tall Mayor's Christmas Tree, one of the nation's tallest, is the centerpiece for an illuminating holiday celebration. Kansas City’s Mayor and a celebrity guest will flip the switch to light the tree. Members of the Kansas City Chorale will perform during the ceremony.

 

Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. You still have time to purchase tickets to this popular international exhibition—it’s been extended through January 2022. The exhibit features more than 700 original artifacts from 20 worldwide institutions, museums and private collections. Reservations are required, and ticket availability is limited.

 

The Testimony exhibit runs through March 27, 2022. The exhibit, offered in collaboration by the Kansas-City based African American Artists Collective and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, features a range of media amplifying the artists’ diverse style and messages.
